") UNDER CONSTRUCTION European Top 6 plan season 2003-2004 EVENTS INTRODUCING THE WSF ROOKIE FESTIVAL 2004 A COOPERATION WITH THE ARCTIC CHALLENGE (TAC) WSF are very proud to announce a cooperation with TAC in making the Rookie Festival 2004 a great and spectacular opportunity for the kids- and youngsters. The road into the top of the world of snowboarding. The WSF started to plan for this RookieFest at the GA in Spain this summer. The invited guest to the meeting, TAC manager Henning Andersen, gave the delegates inputs on the great work being done inside TAC, Terje Hakonsen commitment to do something for the kids- and youngsters, and invited the meeting to cooperate on making an event like a RookieFestival. Today we are pleased to see that this ambitions of WSF is about to come through in an exciting cooperation as follows: Burton Snowboards in Norway and The Norwegian Snowboard Association (NSBF) will be the event organisers. The RookieFestival will not only be a competition, but from the side-events the riders will among other thing be invited to workshops to learn about the Pro life, meet the media, dealing with sponsors - getting new friends from all over the world. And meeting senior-Pro's, getting their experience from heart - and have a good time in the true old-fashioned way of snowboarding. The RookieFestival will take place in Trysil, Norway March 26-28th 2004, and TAC starts when the Festival is finished. Preliminary information about TAC 2004 is attached. WSF invite their NSA-members to join in and be a part of "The Rookies Channel to TAC". The RookieFestival will not only be a great happening, but also a qualification event for Tickets to TAC. Each member-nation in each region will be invited to qualify a certain number of riders. This means that each region (Europe, US, Asia etc) is invited to make an internal qualification-Tour or rankingsystem. WSF will leave it to each region to decide themselves how to do it. (Like Libor/Martin's working on their ET6 in Europe, which might be an example on how to do it.) WSF will have a maximum of 32 spots totally in the RookieFestival - for distribution world-wide. The split-up of these spots will be done after WSF have received feedback on the interest for participation in different parts of the world. There will be 2 age-groups 12-15 and 16-19 years. At least ? shall be females TAC will offer 2-3 Tickets To Ride at The Artic Challenge for the best rookies in age group 16-19 at the RookieFestival , and additional wildcards from Terje personally will be considered to be given to outstanding riders. For the winners of WSF regional cups (1 from Europe, 1 from Asia and 1 from US) we provide a conditional spot in the TAC workshop even if they do not win a Ticket at the RookieFestival (provided that we get a rookie sponsor, which WSF expect to achieve ) TAC will also bring up some few of the best kids in the age-group 12-15 as "Mascots" to the TAC-event, and furthermore, WSF bring you this greetings from TAC- manager, Henning Andersen: "..... we will open up for wild cards from the event - as Terje will be there himself. We are also looking into a Rookie Workshop concept where some of the younger shredders can come to TAC to see and learn. This is a concept where the youngest ones are staying together with the TAC riders, can meet sponsors, can learn about the pro life, meet the media and maybe get a sponsor. For the winners of WSF regional cups (1 from Europe, 1 from Asia and 1 from US) we can guarantee a spot in the workshop even if they do not win the ticket at the rookie festival (provided that we get a rookie sponsor) (WSF: This is expected to be achieved pt) But they need to participate at the Rookie festival to get this access. We underline that we are in no position to sponsor airline tickets etc. We will pay for housing and food under TAC. I hope this is something that can bring our partnership for snowboarding further."..... SUMMARY OF WSF INVITATION TO THE ROOKIEFESTIVAL 2004 WSF need to have your urgent responding and eventually comments on this invitation. WSF need to know whether you want to join into a qualification for the RookieFestival, approximately and how many riders you want to let into the regional qualification. Can your national Association or others guarantee coverage of the travelling expense if one or more of your riders makes it to the RookieFestival. (Housing and food will be covered by the host) Let us together make this an unforgettable experience for the kids and youngsters. Use it for the purpose of stimulating the growth in the true spirit of snowboarding - in your country. : Alexey Yanvarev WSF NEWSLETTER OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2003 4 months have passed after the WSF General Assembly in Spain and just about a year and some months since the Constitution of WSF ! Last autumn WSF spent time on workshops to find a consensus of operational concepts with as many nations as possible. From the GA in Spain this summer WSF has been focusing on contributions to make activities to serve kids, amateurs and the new talents of snowboarding. And the individual nations are the operational force in this work. WSF is their partner in coordinating, connecting people - and pushing when needed. The world of snowboarding is changing more these days than before, and everywhere there is people working hard and dedicated to get their individual projects up and go. And that is very good. As Mao said: 'let the 1000 flowers bloom'. But nevertheless - a colourful collection of flowers put together is not a bad solution either. And all the nations should be challenged to communicate and cooperate much better than it has been done so far. If you can use the tool of WSF network to get closer to your friends in other countries, let us know. The upcoming season will offer a lot of events to riders all over the world - national based events, and a lot of activity reported from Canada, Japan and US - European Tour (named ET6) organised by the WSF members - linked up to a WSF qualification structure for the WSF RookieFestival in Norway and the The Arctic Challenge (read more about it in the attachment) - WSF ROOKIE FESTIVAL . THE ROOKIE CHANNEL TO TAC WSF is proud to announce their cooperation with The Arctic Challenge and Terje Hakonsen (read all about it in the attachment) - invitationals for the Pro's outside FIS - mostly organised by the TTR-group - but also many others organised - - the FIS organised Tour for those it concerns and forgive me if there is activities we have not specifically mentioned, but should have. If so - send us a mail and give some up-dates The good thing about the invitationals this season is that most of them have announced that there will be a pre-qualic ahead of each event, letting new talents have an opportunity to join into the PRO-show. A new trend has set in among senior-PRO's - they want to make their own events. Inspired of Terje Hakonsen and his very successful initiative to create The Arctic Challenge (TAC) - the powerful peak of the TTR events, many other riders is about to make it on their own - from local based events attracting kids and new talents - to the more ambitious projects where PRO-riders cooperate to get the best top-riders/friends to get a better mediafocus and upgraded event. It could be interesting to get a survey of all these events coming up this season, and I invite all of you to mail information of which events you know about. Do you have any information about such events ? Many event-organisers are suffering from the fact that there is no centralised calender-registration of events. The consequences is that many good initiatives will run into problems because of hitting the same days as others. Libor in WSF TechCom tried to get a central calendar organised by invitations to inform about plans, but little repondings. Was it too early? Is this an issue you think we should follow up ? What else goes on in the different parts of the world? Attached you will find some information WSF have received lately from different nations throughout the world - the attachment named 'News from the Nations in the world of Snowboarding' OBS ! OBS! The President of WAS, Steinar Arvesen, will be joining an expedition in the Andes the next 5 weeks (leaving November 6th and back in office December 9th). Steinar will not be able to respond to any mails or phones during this period. In his absence we recommend you to contact the following: WSF TechCOM : Libor Votruba (TechComChairman) Czech Mailadress: votruba1@volny.cz The RookieFest/The Channel to TAC: Annika Johnson, Norway Mailadress: annika@nsbf.no WSF -other issues: Shinzo Tanuma (WSF VicePresident)Japan Mailadress: moss-t@pb3.so-net.ne.jp WSF WISH YOU A GREAT SEASON 2003-04, AND LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUE THE GOOD COOPERATION AND ENJOYMENT OF SNOWBOARDING WORLDWIDE Oslo, October 31th 2003.
